Questions

Generator Monitoring FAQs

Generator monitoring connects your standby generator to the internet via a cellular or Wi-Fi module. This allows the generator to send real-time status updates, alerts, and data to a smartphone app. You can see exactly what your generator is doing - or not doing - from anywhere in the world.

Most modern Generac, Kohler, and Cummins residential standby generators support remote monitoring. Generac uses the Mobile Link platform, Kohler uses OnCue, and Cummins uses their Connected Power system. Older units can often be retrofitted with monitoring modules.

Not required, but highly recommended. Monitoring data creates a service history that can support warranty claims. Some manufacturers also offer enhanced warranty service when monitoring is active, as issues can be detected and addressed before they cause damage.

Monitoring modules are typically included on newer generator models. Some require a subscription fee for advanced features ($8-$12/month). Suncoast includes monitoring setup in most installations and can help you choose the right plan.

You'll receive an instant push notification on your smartphone with the fault code and description. Suncoast can also receive alerts directly - allowing us to proactively contact you and schedule a service call before the problem escalates.
